In the plastic recycling, the mechanical drying by centrifugation is more effective than the thermal drying. Centrifuges in the recycling process are the devices, that allow to obtain the adequate moisture of the shredded material (up to 5% for film and 2% for rigid plastics), ensuring its effective centrifugation from water and allowing for further processing on extruders in the granulation process.

Centrifuges are easy to use devices, efficient and low in energy consumption. The drying process is enabled by a high strength rotor mounted inside, equipped with replaceable blades and screens. The centrifuge rotor transfers the material through the device from the inlet side to the outlet port and rotating at high speed effectively centrifuges it from the water. Contaminants and dirty water are then thrown through a round-meshed screen and collected in the discharge hopper. The rotor and screen configuration in combination with speed of rotation determine the cleaning efficiency and remaining moisture content of the material.
